Dr Lunan Recommends Water Flossing
Standard dental floss is generally considered the be the most effective dental tool for cleaning the tight spaces in between our teeth. A water flosser, similar to traditional floss, can help remove food particles from in between and around your teeth.
A water flosser is a small handheld device that sprays pressurized streams of water in steady pulses. This useful little tool may help reduce bleeding and gum disease by dislodging food particles and rinsing off bacteria. However, it is not considered a substitute for tradional floss. It is to be used in addition to standard floss if at all possible.
Water flossers that have earned the ADA Seal of Acceptance have been tested to be safe and effective at removing plaque, the sticky film on teeth which puts you at a higher risk for cavities and gum disease. Water flossers can also help reduce the early form of gum disease called gingivitis throughout your mouth.
Water flossers can be a great option for people who have trouble flossing by hand. People who have arthritis or have fixed bridges or braces may find water flossers extremely beneficial.
